Our eco-village of kin estates ‘’Rosi’’ (‘’Dewy Valley’’) is situated in a very picturesque place of Volojin district about 50 km away from Minsk. Placed in close proximity to river Isloch and right at the edge of Naliboki forest, ‘’Rosi’’ is a beautiful site with prominent landscape and magnificent scenery. Every year Naliboki forest generously provides us with many kinds of berries, mushrooms, and seedlings.
Our eco-village was founded in 2003 and now consists of 40 families who decided to move from the city into the countryside. Every family owns 1 to 2 hectares (2.5-5 acres) of land. We believe that every family needs a minimum of one hectare of land to create a self-sufficient family homestead, which we call the kin estate. In general, a kin estate includes a forest area (usually one third of the hectare), a pond, an orchard, a vegetable garden, and is surrounded by ‘’live fence’’ consisting of various trees and shrubs. Most of us keep bee hives for honey production and pollination of our gardens. Many villagers keep chickens and goats, and some breed dogs and decorative pond fish. We do not use chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides in our gardens and build cost-effective houses using ecologically-benign materials. To this day, 20 families permanently reside in the eco-village.
We regularly organize visitation days which include a three-hour excursion, sampling of homemade bread with traditional Russian tea (made from fermented fireweed leaves), and the possibility to purchase various organic produce and handicraft products. We offer: herbal tea mixes, organic honey, make-up made from 100% natural products, homemade bread, traditional Russian handicraft dolls, wooden artifacts, and furniture.
